DRIVER'S LICENSE RENEWAL
Following repeated previous announcements to the contrary, Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula has cautioned that the license renewal grace period, which expires next Thursday, 5 May, will not be extended again. Measures to make the renewal process easier for impacted drivers, according to Mbalula they are being implemented across the country. These include extending driving license testing centre hours till the end of the month and permitting walk-ins in regions that accept online bookings. The national Department of Transport is on schedule to produce excellent driver's licence cards. By April 2022, the congestion that existed between November between November 2021 and January 2022 will be gone. By September 2022, the renewal backlog caused by the COVID-19 pandemic grace period will be cleared.
In due course, the following regulation will take effect on the premise that they have their previous driving license cards, motorists who apply to renew their driving license cards before 31 March 2022 will have their licenses valid for an additional three months. They must also provide proof of payment of costs for the renewal application in the form of a receipt. The legislation also applies to people who applied to renew their driver's licence cards will be valid for an additional three months. Please note that if you apply after the expiration date, you will be required to apply for a temporary driver's license. To avoid paying any additional expenses, motorists are recommended to seek to renew their driver's license cards before the expiration date.
Meanwhile, the department is pleased to advise that following the resolution of a recent disagreement involving driving schools, Driver Licensing and Testing Centre (DLTCs) are now fully operational and ready to assist the public.
