DStv has lost a major channel.

After eight years on the platform, DStv subscribers will no longer have access to the Lifetime TV channel (DStv 131) on May 31, 2022.

Following the closure of Lifetime in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Malta, A+E Networks UK, the broadcast company responsible for Lifetime, announced the closure of the African version of the channel.

"A+E Networks Africa is closing its Lifetime Africa channel on both linear and non-linear platforms on May 31, 2022," A+E Networks Africa regional manager Nazarene Khan told TV journalist Thinus Ferreira.

This will coincide with the channel's closure in Poland.
This is not the first time DStv has been unable to access a channel this year.

The broadcaster dropped Russian state-controlled RT News in March 2022 after its regional distributor stopped providing the feed due to Russian sanctions.

"As of March 2, 2021, Russia Today (Channel 407) will no longer be carried on the DStv platform until further notice," MultiChoice stated.

"Due to European Union sanctions imposed on Russia, the channel's global distributor has ceased to provide the broadcast feed to all suppliers, including MultiChoice."
